This iron helmet of the 29th Corps of the National Revolutionary Army was unearthed from under the city wall of Wanping in 1985. The 29th Corps was stationed in Wanping by the Lugou Bridge in 1937. The oblong iron helmet is 27cm in height and 32.5cm in width, with a brim and a hole on top and 17 bullets in it. Having experienced the July 7th Incident, it is now a Level-1 national cultural relic.

On the evening of July 7, 1937, Japanese troops stationed in Fengtai carried out a provocative military exercise near the Lugou Bridge, after which they claimed a soldier was missing and demanded to search inside the Wanping city. After their demand was firmly rejected by the Chinese side, the Japanese troops suddenly began to attack Chinese troops and bombarded the city, and the 29th Corps guarding Wanping fought back in self-defense. That was the July 7 Incident, which lifted the curtain on China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression on full scale and the main theater of the World Anti-Fascist War in the East was opened since then.
