HONG KONG, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- A transformed museum documenting China's resistance against the Japanese invasion was officially unveiled on Tuesday, with free admission starting from Wednesday.

On Tuesday, also the day to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence was officially converted into and renamed the Hong Kong Museum of the War of Resistance and Coastal Defence.

Meanwhile, the museum also launched a thematic exhibition titled "Brothers in Arms: War of Resistance Activities of the East River Column in Shenzhen and Hong Kong."

The revamped museum is aimed at informing people of the history of China's resistance against the Japanese invasion and the city's military affairs, and cultivating a stronger sense of national esteem and patriotism.

At the unveiling ceremony of the renamed museum, John Lee, chief executive of the HKSAR, called the museum an "important cultivation base" for promoting patriotism, particularly among young people.

The chief executive noted that the HKSAR government will spare no effort to promote patriotic education, and strengthen people's national pride and sense of responsibility and ownership.

The museum will launch an array of public programs, including a War of Resistance mini picture book workshop and a National Day flag-raising ceremony and drill performance on Oct. 1. The museum will also collaborate with the Hong Kong Public Libraries to organize a series of outreach programs through exhibitions, workshops and book display sessions.
