On July 26, in the People's Republic of China, as part of the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of World War II, a solemn and funeral ceremony of laying a wreath and flowers at the memorial to Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Northeast China was held in Chengde.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership and diplomats of the Russian Embassy in China, employees of the Representative Office of the Russian Ministry of Defence on organizing and conducting military memorial work in the PRC, students of the school at the Embassy, compatriots and representatives of local authorities. In total, over 70 people took part in the commemorative ceremony.

The city of Chengde is an important transport hub of the region, the capital of the Rehe province, was occupied by the Japanese invaders in 1933. In August 1945, having finished off German fascism in Europe, the Soviet Union came to the aid of its eastern neighbor. On August 19, during the Manchurian strategic offensive operation, the city of Chengde was liberated by the vanguard of the Soviet-Mongolian cavalry-mechanized group under the command of Colonel General Pliev, which was part of the Trans-Baikal Front. Using the element of surprise, Soviet soldiers, practically without a fight, occupied the city, 8,136 enemy soldiers and officers surrendered.

In memory of those heroic events in November 1945, a monument was erected by the decision of the local government. The names of 42 Soviet soldiers of the mechanized cavalry group who died in the war with Japan in the territory of the former province of Rehe are carved on the obelisk.
