BEIJING, Mar. 9 -- "The US should abide by the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three China-US joint communiques, stop official interactions of any form with China's Taiwan region, and stop arms sales to Taiwan. And the US should fulfill its commitment of not supporting the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces with practical actions and stop sending any wrong signal to them", said Chinese Defense Spokesperson Senior Colonel Wu Qian, also spokesperson for the delegation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the People's Armed Police (PAP) Force to the second session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC), on March 9, 2024.
It is reported that the US congressmen have visited Taiwan one after another recently, and the US government has once again approved arms sales to Taiwan. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities stated that it would purchase "Stinger" air defense missiles from the US to keep bolstering its asymmetric warfare capabilities.
Against such backdrop, the spokesperson made the above remarks and reiterated that Taiwan is a part of China and the Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China that brooks no foreign interference.
The spokesperson pointed out that "Taiwan independence" separatist forces have always been the biggest threat to the peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Any act of condoning and supporting the separatist forces is a breach of peace across the Taiwan Strait.
The spokesperson added that the DPP authorities refuse to recognize the 1992 Consensus and the one-China principle, stubbornly adhere to the position of "Taiwan independence", and collude with external forces to constantly carry out provocative actions of seeking "Taiwan independence", which are the root cause of the continued tension and turbulence across the Taiwan Strait. "All the consequences arising therefrom must be borne by the DPP authorities", stressed the spokesperson.
"Compatriots on both sides share the same roots and origin. We are willing to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and effort, but will never leave any room for the separatist acts of "Taiwan independence", emphasized the spokesperson, adding that the PLA will continue to strengthen military training and war preparedness, and resolutely crack down on "Taiwan independence" separatist forces so as to promote reunification, and will always be ready to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
